Initial idea:
In order to create a perfect plot, we had to go through certain stages before we reached our final idea. To ensure we had a wide variety of ideas, we each did created our own initial plot idea. Our plan was to then bring all of our ideas together, discuss who’s we thought could be most successful and adjust it slightly, perhaps including parts from someone else’s storyline.
This was my initial idea:
A teenage girl had been kidnapped for a number of years. Her family are distressed and have faced years of struggle, the police are about to close her case and stop investigations leaving her family with little or no hope. Just days before her case is closed a girl stumbles into the police station and fits the description of the missing girl, which turns out to be their daughter. The return of their beloved daughter isn’t as magical as they expected, she struggles with returning to family life and post-traumatic disorder. She has continuous nightmares and flashbacks of her kidnapper. The film ends with the kidnapper being caught and pleaded guilty. A sense of relief returns to the girl and her family as she slowly returns to her normal self.
When discussing our preferences regarding our initial ideas we decided that the age and gender of the protagonist would appeal to our target audience. Teenage girls are a popular protagonist to have in a thriller therefore it would be successful. However, we decided the story line needed adapting because it would difficult to portray just a film opening effectively. We also needed to be realistic during our filming stage and felt that there might be too many characters and unrealistic locations. This is why in our film opening it is located in accessible places such as homes, school and the streets.
